Perspective on Journalism
My perspective on journalism has changed because of this class. Before I thought all journalists' do was report the news. I didn't know there were certain ways to do it. Different styles, rules you had to follow. I thought I wanted to be a journalist before but after taking this class I learned they deal with a lot of stress. I don't think I could handle waiting on people to get back to me for interviews everyday. Also how strict it is to quote a person. This class was a good example of what journalists' lives are actually like.

Yes, I agree about not being so sure about becoming a journalist after this class. I think Tesha did a really good job of treating this class as though it was real preparation for journalism. It gave us a true feeling for the field.
ReplyDeleteI agree Laura. I was taken by surprise by all the rules! It's crazy. I mean I've always known basic grammar, punctuation and spelling very well - but I had a really hard time adjusting to the AP style writing.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I was also surprised by all the rules that there are! I don't think I will be heading into a journalism career either. You have to deal with a lot of stress, and I don't think I could handle it. I had a hard enough time getting through this semester...so I don't think I would be able to handle having that for my career. Tesha did a really nice job with setting us up for what it would really be like.
ReplyDeleteIt was definetly a taste of something I have never ever had before! I am with Rachel- i had a hard time too and after putting all that effort into my stories to recieve a grade that I didnt expect.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to sound like a broken record (as I've repeated this on many of your blog posts), but practice does make perfect (or at least much better) in this field. The more you write, the better you'll get. You'll be able to write more, crank it out faster and avoid mistakes. This is one course; I hope you leave the window open on this field and don't completely shut it right now. I hope that you all did get a good feel for the demands of the field, but also the fun of crafting a story. If you publish something, it's even better. Most people appreciate having their story told, and will let you know. It is very rewarding.
