Cougar sighting in Champlin

When Police Sgt. Bob Penney of Champlin was finishing up his overnight shift Saturday, the dog watch shift's routine was broken by a cougar.

Penny and Officer Jeff Martin saw the cougar as it made its way across Hwy. 169, toward the Mississippi River.

The cougar crossed into a residential area along East River Parkway.

Keep a close eye on children and pets, Penney warned residents.

  1. Good attention-getting summary. It's not every day residents have to watch out for cougars. Are there cougars in that area and even in Minnesota? Nice job?

  3. I was actually chased by a cougar once! That would be horrible if one actually attacked a child. I wonder if it is a natural pet or one that escaped from captivity like the one that chased me?
